Informed People Are Empowered People

Colorectal Cancer Awareness message

There are at least two ways to be informed: know what’s going on and understand the information. Helping people know what’s going on requires understanding what sources of information people expose themselves to, and how often. Understanding information means messaging is developed specifically for the target audience to comprehend and retain, preferably using plain language.

In the case of Native Reach™, we take the added approach of ensuring the information is culturally informed, respectful, and inclusive of Indigenous traditions and values.

Since March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, we have a couple of examples of informed messaging:

  • Example one uses humor and entertainment to engage the audience
  • Example two combines plain language with cultural elements to help people understand and retain the information

Each includes simple and subtle techniques designed to “move the needle” regarding colorectal knowledge and screenings. GoodHealthTV® and Native Reach™ Smartphone apps are the vehicle to deliver the information across the country.
