Identifying Pain Points in Your Workflow

Man with back pain during doing outdoor exercise

Would you like to get more accomplished in the same amount of time? Yeah, kind of a dumb question. But would you? How do you identify and tackle the “pain points” robbing you of peak efficiency in your workflow?

Typically, a pain point can refer to something frustrating in a process, or something that could just be done better. A chainsaw vs an axe, for example. Much faster. Less blisters.

I find the best way to identify pain points is to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.

If you’ve been bogged down in the details trying to churn out results, you might need someone from the outside to take a look from their perspective. It can be annoying when someone does take a look and says, “Well, here’s your problem!” Why didn’t I see that? Maybe you were just standing too close.

Of course, once you’ve identified pain points, the next step is developing a strategy to address them. My advice on strategies: Keep them simple and achievable.

  • Set a 3-6 month goal.
  • Create 2 or 3 objectives.
  • Decide what actions are needed to meet the objectives.
  • Give yourself grace; your goals will take time and perseverance.
