The holiday season is here, and with it comes all the yummy foods and desserts. It can be hard to resist the temptation to all the festive treats. The good news is, you don’t have to say no! I’m sure you are thinking, “Wait, there’s a catch, isn’t there?” Well, saying yes to holiday treats just means learning how to celebrate in moderation.
Instead of not enjoying yourself during the holiday season because you are worried about gaining weight, think of it from the perspective of maintaining and not gaining. You can have the treats and all the fun that comes with them—in moderation. Easier said than done, right? Here are some tips to help you celebrate without the guilt trip.
- Move more! Go for a walk, see the holiday lights, schedule your workouts just like you schedule holiday parties, and sign up for a holiday 5k walk/run.
- Make sure to get proper rest. Staying up late can often lead to late-night snacking, making it hard to fall asleep. Cutting your sleep time short can also cause weight gain, so do your best to stick to your sleep routine.
- Eat well. Yes, it is possible to eat well during the holidays. There are plenty of great, healthy foods out there that pair well with the not-so-healthy foods. And while the cookies and candies look good, practice moderation.
- Drink plenty of water; it’s important to stay hydrated. Get yourself a cute holiday water bottle and keep it by your side.
Don’t let the holiday festivities bring you added stress; this is a time to enjoy those around you, make memories, and have fun. If you slip up and have way too many cookies, don’t stress over it. Remember, tomorrow is a new day! Enjoy yourself this holiday season – in moderation!.
