Empowering Pathways to Homeownership for AI/AN Peoples

Did you know that the American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) homeownership rate remains below the national average, coming in at 53.7%? Housing is a key social determinant of health and builds generational financial stability. Poor housing can negatively affect the health and well being of individuals and families.

In 2024 Native Reach™ participated in The Opportunity Project (TOP), an initiative led by the U.S. Census Bureau’s Census Open Innovation Labs (COIL) and in partnership with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Our shared goal was to raise awareness among AI/AN peoples about available homeownership resources and support greater housing stability both on and off Tribal lands.

Through a 13 week sprint, Native Reach™ worked alongside the U.S. Census Bureau, HUD, Native led partners across the country, and other subject matter experts to co-develop pathways to homeownership tools.

Through this collaboration we gained a deeper understanding of Census data tools that help to inform and strengthen our storytelling for Indigenous audiences nationwide.

  • The result of this sprint was a one-minute animated video to inform viewers of key housing resources featuring two additional housing support organizations. This video was also made available to any housing organization to use on websites, socials, or in local outreach efforts.

  • The animated video was distributed on all GoodHealthTV® monitor displays and 27 Native Reach™ apps nationwide. The video generated over 1.9 million impressions over 25 days on GoodHealthTV® and a 69.25% app conversion rate, exceeding the  industry average benchmark of 26%.

Our involvement in TOP not only raised awareness around AI/AN homeownership, it also reinforced the power of culturally grounded media strategies.

We’re proud of this collaboration and excited about what’s next. This partnership shows how innovative marketing strategies, impactful partnerships, and culturally attuned content can come together to support community health and empowerment.
