Benefits of Breastfeeding

Breast Feeding Native American - Native Reach

Did you know there are numerous benefits to breastfeeding for both mom and baby?

Breast milk is a great source of vitamins and nutrition that supports a baby’s development and growth. During development, the breast milk actually adjusts to meet the baby’s nutritional needs.

Breast milk can also help protect babies against some illnesses and diseases. Antibodies from the mother are shared with their baby through breastfeeding. This helps the baby develop a strong immune system.

Breastfeeding benefits mothers as well. When you breastfeed, it can reduce the risk of developing high blood pressure and some cancers. Breastfeeding can also help lower your risk of osteoporosis.

The benefits to breastfeeding are endless. If you are able to breastfeed, that’s wonderful! If you are not able to or simply choose not to, that is okay too. We know that each parent has their own experiences. As long as your baby is fed, that is what matters the most.
